About Chemical Testing and Analytical Laboratory (CTAL)

• The Chemical Wing of the Commissionerate comprises five Regional Testing Laboratories located at Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, and Thoothukudi. These laboratories provide testing facilities to meet the requirements of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Government Departments such as the Public Works Department, Railways, Corporations, as well as private customers, for testing both industrial raw materials and finished products.
• These testing laboratories are equipped with modern instruments such as the Optical Emission Spectrometer and the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer which can test the chemical composition of metals to high level of accuracy. These laboratories are also equipped with other instruments to test materials used in construction industries such as steel rods, cement, water, sand,aggregates, bitumen, soil etc.
• During 2024-25, these laboratories earned a revenue of Rs. 3.90 Crore by testing 1,02,871 samples.
